A decision has been made to include 11 sub-castes in the OBC category. These include Lingayat Gurav, Lingayat Jangam, Lingayat Kumbhar, Lingayat Nhavi, Lingayat Parit, Lingayat Dhobi, Lingayat Phulari, Lingayat Sutar, Lingayat Vani, Lingayat Tamboli, and Lingayat Kullekadgi. A decision was made to include three sub-castes, Lingayat Koshthi, Lingayat Devrang, and Lingayat Sali, in the special backward class.

The state backward classes commission has recommended the inclusion of the Lingayat Reddy, Lingayat Kanodi, Lingayat, Lingader, Lingdhar, Lingayat Shilwant, Lingayat Dakshavant, Lingayat Pancham, Chaturth, Hindu Lingayat, Hindu Virshava, Virshava Lingayat, and Tirali sub-castes in the OBC.
